hi guys, i have been searching google and found this forum with a thread similar to my problem dated 2008 but with no answer so i made an account to ask myself. the ski is a 2000 gtx with a carb'd 951, it was only running on one cylinder so i tore the carbs apart to find that the screens were gummed up bad. i cleaned them really well, put them back together, cleaned out the main fuel filter and reassembled it. when i finally got it to crank it was running at 7000 rpm (on hose of course) so i killed it. after some poking around i found the throttle plates were cracked open, with the help of a mirror i found that there are two holes in the throttle cable wheel on the carb and i had attached it to the farther one. after much swearing i finally got it in the closer hole (which is assume is the correct hole) and now idles at about 5000 rpm. the idle adjustment screw still isnt contacting the stop on the butterfly shaft. the throttle cable is also adjusted all the way with no adjustments left. can someone help? i may be able to get a picture from underneath the carbs with my phone if that can help yall see if something isnt right.

First....

Did you replace all the fuel lines? The gray Tempo fuel lines is why the carbs were gummed up. THey decay, and send goo into the engine.

Second....

Take the throttle cable off... and see where it idles. Also... you can adjust the cable at the carb... can you put a little slack in it, at the adjustment nuts?

also double check to see if you put both carb gaskets on cause i didnt and my engine just raced at idle like yours. Check to see if you are getting uncontrolled air which would be at the carb area. best i can do im still learning. The guy above me is the expert.

after posting that i went out to check the cable to make sure there is a little slack and i could my problem. poorly routed throttle cable that held the butterflys open. fixed that, took it for a test and idles great at 1200 (i know its a little low i havent reset the cable length after i found the problem. now it just have some off start and mid rang tuning bugs i need to work out.
