My new to me 03 Sportster LE is close to running properly.

Currently, the cyclinders appear to be filling with fuel, causing the engine not to turn over. Almost like its hydrolocked. Here is a video. http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/2117/lv8.mp4

I pull the spark plugs and crank the engine to blow out the fuel, then reinsert the plugs and it starts and appears to be running okay. I did this yesterday. This morning, went to crank and its locked up again.

Where should I start to look to find out why so much fuel is going in there overnite with the boat on the trailer?

Thanks BigJake. For some reason my boat does not have a fuel shutoff valve switch. If I install an inline fuel shutoff valve, would that be sufficient? Or better to rebuild the carbs?

You really need to do both, I'm pretty sure your ski came with a fuel control valve, it's a requirement on PWC's. If your carbs. are leaking fuel into the engine they definitely need to be rebuild, also check the reed valves, you could have a stuck or broken valve.

I also noticed in your video you have a water hose rubbing on the drive shaft, you need to re-route the hose probably under the drive shaft.

Sorry I didn't notice you had a boat, so it may not have a fuel control valve.

Okay thanks. Will do the carbs.

Yea, I noticed that water hose rubbing....with the PTO cover in place its not an issue.

There is no fuel valve control on my boat. I've seen other Challengers/Sportsters that have the switch mounted below the throttle lever, near the steering wheel. My manual shows there should be one there....but I have nothing! I will be installing an inline fuel shutoff right after the fuel filter tomorrow.

make sure you get new needls and seats. they are sold seperately and not inculded in the kits.

My manual shows I have a MK-BN46I carb. The 951 Sportster LE. I called to order the needle and seat and they asked what size? 1.5, 2, or something. How can I find out what size I have/need?

Thanks!

I believe 2.0. Type the OEM number in on ParkerYamaha.com and it shows it as 2.0. you can measure them also.
