Does anyone have any sort of UV protectant they recommend to apply after cleaning?
Soft Scrub with Bleach and a blue scotchbrite pad. And patience lol. What’s your secret?
Is there a difference in scotchbrite pads according to colour? I’ve always used mothers back to black trim restorer after cleaning with soft scrub or NapthaI’m

If your pad is already gummy before you try to clean it, there’s no saving it.
Yeah. White, gray, maroon and green in order of least aggressive to most aggressive. Blue is just what is sold in the grocery store, typically for pots and pans. It does a good job without being too aggressive. Is there a difference in scotchbrite pads according to colour? Nice! I was more so curious how this one would turn out since it looked pretty rough. I actually just threw a coat of plastic & rubber restorer on it and the thing turned out almost brand new. No sticky residue at all!Came out great but I paint mine for longevity. Once and done.I have one that is turning to "goo" I might be able to save it with some cleaning and paint. I'm deciding Yellow or Black paint. I did on in black but when it scratches you see the yellow.
So, I may go yellow. That cloth cover isn't a bad option when the plastics are coming apart.
What kind of paint do you use? I have trouble getting paint to stick past a couple of years. When I do another one I think I am going to try SEM vinyl coat. I did a badly faded purple seat with it 2 years ago and it still looks great.Came out great but I paint mine for longevity. Stuff is plastic. I use automotive base clear mostly. I used to have acrylic laying around which I like because it is single stage but that means I have to stock double the materials. You can use Bulldog Adhesion promoter just a light coat to help the paint stick. Gotta be careful with those primer sealers because the paint doesn't stick to them. I'm finding more and more I have to sand. For metal I use "self etching primer" (just a light coat)What kind of paint do you use? I have trouble getting paint to stick past a couple of years. Glad to hear the SEM vinyl coat is durable, I used it for stenciling on the seat a couple years ago, it’s held good so far as wellWhat kind of paint do you use? Where did you get that finger throttle? I’m looking into coverting mine. Also picked up a GT Manufacturing finger throttle that I’m going to have anodized black.

Facebook. They’re not manufactured anymore so you’ll have to see what you can find in Facebook groups or on eBay. This is a GT Manufacturing throttle, but Coastal and Thumb Saver were knockoffs back in the day.Where did you get that finger throttle? I’m looking into coverting mine.
SEM says it works on plastic also. I used Bulldog on the last one I painted. It has started to fail after 1 year. A different bar pad that I have painted twice, I have actually used SEM over the paint and it is still good after 1 year, but it is not a fair test because it is on paint that is not holding very well. I paint all sorts of stuff, motorcycles, parts on my 50 year old airplane, race bike, tractors, lots of jet skis I've painted hoods. Base/Clear is dang near indestructible. Nothing looks nice or last longer than nice paint on a jet ski. Brings them alive. It puts an exclamation point on a good mechanical build. It's all personal preference and it if feels good go one.... do it.
