Hey everyone, a long time friend of mine is selling his 95 xp that is in overall good condition and I'd like to buy it. It sat from 2001 to 2011 in his garage and he finally took out last summer after doing the following:
-New fuel lines
-cleaned carbs
-new wear ring
-replaced shaft bearing
compression tested and both cylinders at 150.

The jetski is really nice for its age and because of it sitting for so long, its estimated to have really low hours. A few concerns I have:

-Jetski takes on water slowly, after about half the day out at the lake, we have to put it back on the trailer and drain it (I'm guessing that's why there's a drain plug?). Coming from a 94 Kawasaki, I've never had to drain so I'm wondering if this is normal for these Seadoos?

-Trying to get on the jetski is very tricky, its very hard to keep balance and almost impossible to get back on if you fall off out in the middle of the water. Once you start moving it's fine, is this normal for this model?

How much is it worth? He wants $1400 which seemed like a fair price considering the condition and the money he put in it last year to get it lake ready. TIA

Hi and welcome to the SeaDoo forum,

I'm thinking that 1400.00 is about full retail for a 95.

A couple of questions, does it have a trailer, is the motor a 717 or a 787? The way to tell real quick if it has RAVE valves it's a 787.

As far as leaking water, this is not normal, it's probably an easy fix.

Yes the X4 hull is hard to ride at first, even though it will seat 2 it's really a one person ski. When I bought mine it took a little practice to get use to the ski, until I bought mine I had only ridden large skis. However I now think this is the best ski that SeaDoo ever made it's certainly the most fun to ride. However if this is your only ski it may not be the best choice.

A ski that has been in storage for 10 years is not necessarily a good thing, it would have been better is the ski had regular use.

It comes with a trailer and it has the 717. Yeah I hear ya on the only 1 person jetski, its not meant for 2 people. So it should be dry inside the engine compartment (I don't know the proper term sorry)? We thought it was normal since it had the drain plug out back, but now I'm a little worried...

Ride with seat off and see if theres a leak :)

Or

Leave it on the trailer and back it into the water. Start it and check for leaks.

Here are the cooling lines

I think $1400 is high to me, If it was mint and didn't have any problems but you know there is a leak, it make be a cheap fix but it's going to take some labor to fix the issues. The crank seals may have started to leak as well if it has sat that long. If so you would know by excessive smoke and even oil coming out of the exhaust. I think $1000 would be a fair price, I bought 1 for $300 but was in rough shape but the motor was great, also my buddy bought 1 last year for 600, his was in good shape. It all comes down to what you want to pay I guess. If you have a hard time getting on the x4 hull I would recommend a 97gsi or Gsx they are a smoother ride and easier to reboard. The gsi has the same Has the same 717 and the Gsx has the 787 and I guarantee ig you look around you can get 1 for under 1400 I bought a 97 gsi for 1000 and a 96 Gsx for 1100. If you like the xp I would get a 96, you can get them for 1400 and they have the 800 motor, But I'm rambling now. Good luck with whatever you do
