95 SPi smoking alot - anyone have estimate of what rebuild or carb rebuild costs

My 95 is smoking alot, figuring (what I have read here) that is either the carb or rotary valve seal - anyone have an idea of cost associated with rebuild of either? Just curious as to what to expect and look for in the rebuild!

If you have a shop do it... it will be expensive. It would be cheaper to have them just install a rebuilt engine.

Yes... the crank, or rotary valve seals can leak, and cause smoke... but smoke from that issue will normally clear up after 4 or 5 minutes of running at upper RPM's. Then... it shouldn't be a problem until it sits around for a while. If it's smoking all the time... then make sure your injection pump is set properly.


OK... with that said... these are 2-stroke engines, and they will smoke a little when cold, or run at idle speeds for extended periods of time. Personally... if you don't have starting issues... I would just run it. That engine can run for a long time before needing a real rebuild.



Last thing. Are you running the proper oil for a Seadoo?

It has been sitting awhile, just got it and trying to work on getting it running etc. Not too savvy with these, used to be years ago . Runs great, starts easy but smokes like a freight train. Going to drain all fluids, replace with correct and change plugs - read where some people go up to next step up to hotter plug, should I try as well? Thanks for info!!!

Have you had it in the water or are you just running it on the trailer? If it were me I would take it to the lake and run it for at least 1/2 hour. Change the injection oil first, drain and purge the system and add API-TC synthetic or synthetic blend injection oil. Drain and refill the tank with fresh gas.

I would stay with the stock spark plugs, however I would install a new set, gap .022. Then take a trip to the lake, I think you'll be pleasantly suprised.

if it has been sitting the oil will drain into the crankcase this will cause it too smoke take it on the water and run for an hour then check if it still smokes check the oil inj linkage it may be rotated if someone rebuilt the carbs

There is no reason to run a hotter plug. These engines run great on the stock plugs.

As above... were you running it on the trailer... or in the water. It takes a real load to burn out the oil.

Eh just let it rip! Mine smokes on cold starts quite often. Everything checks out fine and it runs well and never has any problems.

First start of the season was yesterday. I had a small plume cloud surrounding it haha not quite, but seriously I wouldn't sweat it to much unless it's not running well.
