Hi all, I'm having an issue with my new to me boat. My engines are not running togather past half throttle. As I power up both engines run in sync until around 4500 rpm or half throttle but as I go past that to get on plane, my port engine then accelerates faster than my starboard. At full throttle the port engine hits about 7200 rpm and the starboard about 6800. Any ideas? I just finished cleaning out the carbs and everything looked good inside but all the high and low speed screws were set to different positions, my high speed screws were set anywhere from 1/4 to 3/4 out and my low speed were anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 turns out. I reset them back to where the service manual stated. Unfortunatly I didn't have the boat on the water last year so I can't tell you if things are better or worse. In all honesty I would like to slow the one engine down if possible, 55 mph accross the water is a little too fast for me.

The engine that is running faster is having cavatation issues. On that boat... your top RPM should be right around 6500 rpm, if things are loading properly.

I would start by looking at your impeller and wear ring. If that looks good, then check the seal between the pump and the shoe... then check to see if the shoe is still sealed to the hull... and finally, check the condition of your driveshaft seal.

Thanks for your reply. I hear and understand what your saying, but is it normal for everything to seem ok at lower rpm's? It almost feeling like a clutch that's slipping. It's only above 4500 rpm that thing go array. In all honesty it's not that big a deal to me given what the boat is being used for. I can still get on plane and still do 55 mph across the water.
