95 Seadoo XP Gauge Issues

Hey Guys,

I have been reading for the last 2 days and I'm lost and need help.

Picked up a 95 xp for a steal. Started ripping things apart and replacing as necessary.

I know the vts is shot, there was a blown fuse and I replaced it to the smell of burning on the vts cooking. Traced that down to the one connector that is power/ground/and one other wire so left that disconnected until i replace.

My real issue is that none of the gauges are working. I unplugged the daisy chain on the vts and rpm gauge and ran power to the main purple wire and grounded the black and the main gauge doesn't do anything. Is it shot? Or am I looking at the MPEM replacement? I don't really wanna throw parts at it, but want to get this thing back to its glory as I love the 2 strokes. I was wondering if it was MPEM as maybe the vts problem effected it? (it was also blowing the 5 amp fuse, all fuses seem fine now) Also verified power from mpem to the main gauge upon key.

Any advice greatly appreciated. I spend hours a day reading lol and I am learning a ton!

If it blows fuses unplug connections till you find it. Try the Stator connection. Look at repair manual and do the test procedure on charging system / stator. I have found that most of the power circuits feed thru the stator. If it is shorted to ground nothing will get power. Look at the E-Box too, if it has one. It can be filled with water at some point and cause problems with the main power feed / fuse. Pull apart junction plugs, look for gunk and funk in them. Put a little dielectric grease on prongs of plug. Do not fill female parts with grease. That will cause them to not latch or connect fully. Clean and protect ground connections. They should be on the engine. Do the main ground cable connected to the engine too.

thanks for the reply.

I was able to find the source of the fuse blow like you said by disconnecting the power line to the VTS. I will start ripping everything apart looking for issues.

Right now I am leaning toward bad main all in one gauge or bad mpem but wanted to try and diagnose a bit more before throwing parts at her.

The power line to the VTS and having that disconnected couldn't affect the gauge issue could it? I tried looking at the wiring diagram and it didn't look like it but I could be wrong.

The VTS is a lot of times the issue on ski's. Some ski's have power feed through other systems. I am far from an expert on this stuff. They design it some blizzard ways. Unplug and try it.
