95 seadoo no start

I recently bought a 95 seadoo xp. I watched the guy start it and it ran great. I got it home and didn't mess with it for a week. When I went to start it again, it wouldnt even make a sound. I checked the safety switch and starter switch, both are good. I checked the feed to the solenoid and its not getting fire. I don't want to spend $400 on a ski I haven't even ridden yet. Any suggestions?

I'm assuming the MPEM is bad and was wondering if there was some way to bypass it to get it going.

Ill start with the basics. Does your battery have a good charge?

MPEM are not usually an item to die easily. Also very expensive. Id leave that till the last.

Yes battery is brand new and fully charged.

The guy I bought it from had installed the battery. To my knowledge it was not hooked up backwards. I personally have never hooked it up backwards.

OK... knowing that... the MPEM is probably still OK. AS above... they don't just go bad without a reason.

In the Gray box... there are a couple fuses. Did you check them?

After checking the fuses I would get a meter on the battery and test the voltage while I try to crank it; make sure it is a fresh strong battery.

I would check the voltage AT the fuses. What happens when you put the DESS key on? What happens when you go to start it?

Could it be bad contact with battery?

The easiest and first thing to check is your connection to the battery. If you have corrosion/oxidation on the posts/wires, it COULD lead to a no start condition. Illiminate this possibility and proceed from there.

Battery is strong. Fuses are good with good voltage reading on my power test light. Terminals clean. No DESS on this ski. When I hit the start/stop button the only noise you hear is the click of the button itself. It did start once when I had the boxout and unplugged and pluggedstuff back in

It cranks good when I jump the solenoid but has no fire at the spark plug. Whatever sends fire to the solenoid evidently sends fire to the coil also.

yes, that's correct, the MPEM has to be activated to work. sounds like your start switch button is bad, they do fail and easy to check. do your gauges come alive when you press the start button with the lanyard off?

No. The gauges do not come on. When I check the starter switch, I get a ground signal to the MPEM.

find the two wires that come off the start switch. put an ohm-meter on the end of them. you should see the resistance change to 0 when you hit the button.

Resistance does go to zero.

then your start-switch is good. If your xp doesn't have a dess, then it has a lanyard cut-off switch. Do the same sort of test on it. next, check the voltage going to your MPEM. Those fuses should carry the same voltage as your battery. Touch your voltmeter to them and see what they're reading.

Sorry its been so long coming, but the verdict is in! Mpem,rectifier and the ground cable. All replaced, runs great! Thanks for all the postsand help.
