Hello I'm new here and also new to pwc's. My 1995 Seadoo sp has a 587cc Rotax engine I saw some engines on ebay and such for around $500.00 not sure if this is okay or not. I would very much like to know what types of motors could I put inside of this water ski.

Thanks everyone,

Rider Robert

Well if you just want to install a motor and go then you can only use a 587. In 95 the 657 in the spx and gtx and the 717 in the xp could swap. The electronics are the same. Unfortunatly for you you cannot go bigger unless you switch some stuff out. Even when you go up in size from 650 to 720 the cooling lines have to have a little modification and the impellers will have to be swapped. With your 587 it might just not be worth it in the long run to swap the motors, too much stuff will need to be bought. The cost of doing that might equal you finding a 95-96 xp.

THANK YOU SO MUCH SIR YOU ARE A GENTLEMAN AND A SCHOLAR! I will just put an original sized motor back in it. as for the money issue the guy said it was running but after I took it home I discovered it was locked up. :( I paid about 900 for it and was devastated but I really want to get on the water so I will save up and get a new motor!

Again, thanks a million, sir!

I know its too late now, but always water test a ski. Never take someones word from craigslist about the condition, maintenance, or any thing about the ski. Joining this forum will be a life saver for you though, as these fine gentlemen well help guide you and get that doo out on the water

That sux.

Well ebay motors are a crap shoot.

On a 580 motor....SBT has really good pricing on them. Its a low HP motor, so even though SBT parts arent the best, I would HIGHLY suggest it if you plan to keep the machine a few years.

I am usually NOT an SBT pimp...but their 580 prices are awesome.
