Had decided to check compression on the gtx I picked up not running. I am in learning stages so forgive my description. Compression is 120 on cylinder towards front of ski and about 95 in the rear cylinder. What's acceptable? My 96 gti is at 120 on each cylinder and runs awesome. I don't want to sink a lot of money in the 95 gtx if it's not worth it!

Your compression is below acceptable, time for a re-build. BTW 120psi is the bottom limit, your 96GTI will need a rebuild soon. 150psi is ideal, 130-140 is O.K., 120 time for a rebuild. You may want to re-check with a known good gauge.

What shape is the ski in? Being not a highly desirable ski, and 20 years old, is it worth dropping that money in a 20 year old ski, or is true time to put it out to pasture

This is the ski that has sat for at least a year, yes? If so, it is common for compression to be a bit low as there is no oil on the cylinder walls and piston ringgs. However, I agree with Lou that even if you were to gain say 15 PSI, you would still be in the "rebuild zone"...

I checked it with a new $15 Guage from autozone..not sure if it's reliable or not. I don't know the ropes of compression tools or things like that. I'm new at this guys

The cheapest path is tho send your engine to SBT for an exchange $775 plus shipping.
A better option is t send to FullBore online for $995.

If you want the challenge you can DIY for about $800 in parts and machining but you don't get a warranty.

SES was cheaper for me than SBT
