Hey guys, today I got a jet ski from a guy and he says he bought it last year but he couldn't get it above 1200 rpms. Right now the air system has been taken apart so I haven't had time to test it. But any idea what could cause that?

Thanks

Not really, ..... not with more info. The air system? You can't get above 1200 rpm, the carbs, the compression?

That's a tough one, at 1200 rpm, it's not even going to run except on the trailer. What is the compression?

I finally got it in the water and running. It starts fine out of water but does start a little harder in the water. He was right once I get above around 1400 or so rpms the motor just dies. I don't have a compression gauge right now so is there anything else that would cause this problem? I think he might have messed around with the carburetor a little. Im going to take that off now and try to clean it.

I would check the compression first, it's going to point you in the right direction. You should be able to buy one for under $20.00.

I just had it out on the water again without doing anything and after a while I got it to work fine. But once in a while after a quick accelerate it would kill. Then starting it again is very difficult. I think its just the carbs. I will clean them properly and see what happens.

Alright guys I just got both carbs rebuild. The ski runs pretty good with one person on it but when you get two people on it the ski won't gets down to around 3000 rpms and looses all power and smokes like crazy. I noticed the end of the impeller is bent up slightly. Is this a capitation issue? I have a refurbished impeller from a 92 gts. Should I put that in there with a new wear ring or is that a bad idea?

I just removed the pump. Here is a photo of the impeller. Is this bad enough to cause problems? I noticed if I run it for a few seconds out of water the engine will sometimes lock up like the impeller is grabbing something, but once I spray water in the impeller it will run fine.
