Hi, I just bought a 88 seadoo from a guy. I got the battery all charged and plugged in. But when I go to start it, it will make a loud clunk. Sounds like its coming from down by the starter. Any idea how to fix it? He said it was running last year and he had it winterized. So I don't know, it seems like he might be trying to screw me with a bad engine but it does look like it was properly winterized. The tank is dry and the plugs are covered in oil. I haven't done much more than connect the battery. Any idea on the next step? Do I need to have gas in it?

It's hard to say from your description.

At the back of the engine, there is the PTO flywheel. It should be covered by a gray plastic cover. Remove the cover, and remove the spark plugs... and see if you can turn it by hand. If you can... the engine isn't frozen up. Then... try a new battery, or at least a battery that is known to be good. If it still wont crank... you probably just need a starter.

Oh... you can also try cleaning the ends of all the power cables. Some times they get a little corrosion under them, and the engine won't crank.

Alright thanks guys. I will try that once I get home. I don't think its the battery, I just bought it new yesterday and it reads 12.9v

I just took the cover off and tried to move the big yellow cylinder under there and it won't budge. Now what?

Well I just took the cylinder head off and took a look inside. The cylinders are covered with little balls looking like rust or something. And the pistons are stuck if I push on them. Any tips on getting this to move?

I just realized there is sand surrounding the engine too. Does this mean the whole thing is filled with sand? I am going to take an air compressor and blow as much out of it as possible . Here is a photo.
