787 Starter problems

Hows it going all?

Can someone tell me if there is any more bolts that need to be removed besides the two in front and the Pos/neg terminal wires to remove the starter? I removed what i think is all the bolts and the thing won't budge?
Any suggestions or am i missing something?

on my 97 xp /787 it was only 2 bolts, (the 2 allen head bolts in the front) I actually just pulled mine today. I got to the lake and it started fine. then i stopped for a quick dip and it wouldnt start back up. luckily there was a nice guy who towed me in. i got home and thought it was the battery so i went to batteries plus and got a new one. got home and the same thing. it would start once or twice then the clicking.

My dad pointed out that the starter was getting REALLY HOT after only trying to start it once after a long cool down period. Then i realized that when i walked away for an hour or 2 and come back it would start right up but if i shut it off and tried again it wouldnt start. so i think i may have a short in my starter.

I pulled the starter off and hooked up pos and neg to a battery, the gear would spin but it wouldnt shoot out to engage. Im really hoping this is the reason i have been having trouble with my doo. any thoughts?

Update: took my starter into the armature place today and found out the magnet was all broken up. Easy fix. Just hoping this solves the issue

I think Ive had smoke rolling off my starter before trying to get it to start, I was furious. Im probably about due for one soon, or its been built good.. Showed up to pick up a hottie, she jumps on and dead.. While we float down the river I killed my gel battery dead trying to get it going.. Not a good day.

well i put the new starter in today and it worked great for about 5 mins (didnt run it non stop to get it started if your wondering)i just tried starting it for a couple of secs at a time, with plenty of cool down time between. then it started bogging down and then back to the clicking. the starter was getting very hot, that doesnt seem normal to me. only thing i can think of is the ground not being good enough but it looks ok to me. the ground runs from my battery to one of the bolts that goes through the block and holds the starter on. My battery is reading about 12.57v so its ok. anyone have any idea's? i havent done a compression check but when it starts it runs great. its just he getting it started that seems to be my problem recently.
