what about the two bolts holding the starter to the bracket, do you remove them or the hidden bracket bolt?
Thanks
I dunno Gene, I have tried a couple times to access the top 13 mm bolt and I think someone switched it with something they had laying around. the sidewall is super thin and I am afraid I'll strip it. Especially since I cant see it.

The TOP front one?? That one is usually the easiest. Or the one on the bottom?? Snap-On and some manufacturers have much thinner walled sockets that might get you in there.
You left that pipe in place? You're my hero. I've been thinking about not removing it but that starter better jump off because any signs of trouble it's outta there. LOL

nooo...never got it out...I'm still deciding if I pull the starter first or pull the head...I'm not 100% sure the starter is the issue. Its locked.....wont turn by hand....I did get the airbox out and was starting on getting the throttle body out, but its been too blingin hot here to work on it in...
OK, so.... I've done these previously and I know my way around them. I tried as advised to remove the starter without pulling the exhaust pipe. This is a 2001 Seadoo GTX RFI. I had to remove the Air Box and the Throttle body (just disconnected the wiring and pushed it to the side). I disconnected the mag plug and ground wires to get them out of the way and also the water line to the pipe. I WAS ABLE to remove the bolts to the starter. I'm not sure I could get the bracket bolt back in but it'd be tough. I'd need a swivel 13mm ratchet wrench to make that task acceptable and less painful. I consider 787 stater jobs a pain in the azz even on the Carb 787 but I"m short.
PROBLEM I had was removing the starter from under the engine and between the exhaust pipe. The location of the steering cable may have been an issue but I fought trying to get it out of there for enough time to give the hell up. LOL I"m pretty good with this kinda stuff and I was determined to get the starter out of there but I couldn't get the starter between the pipe and brackets. I took about 7 minutes to pull the Pipe and provide way more room for me. That was painful but I had to try it. Starter is a Pipe Off job for me but I don't get paid as a mechanic so no rush and easier is they way I approach the skis. Good Luck !!
