Just wondering what it would take to install the 717/787 engine or 951 into a Polaris RZR SXS or some sort of one off SXS. Since the engines are so cheap (comparatively) and so tough...and they put out great HP it seems like a fun project.

The mounting and cooling seems easy enough, but the electrical part might be tough. What is needed from a "brain" standpoint to get an engine running...if I were to buy an engine alone and not part of a whole ski.

Thanks!

It's going to be really tough, I would suggest using a pre-mpem engine. I think the electronics would just be too complicated.

How about a chevy small block.

Well a turbo RZR engine putting out 130HP or so will run just under $10,000 - an 800 version with a turbo putting out 80HP or so would be about $7-8k. So I guess I could just buy an entire ski for a few grand and drop the entire electrical and engine right in and it would still be worth it.

One of these two stroke engines would be a blast in the dunes. They are almost exactly the same size and put out twice the HP. Anyway, just wondering what people think.

I would use an 800 Rotax. If you use an MSD ignition... it can be a "Stand alone" engine. You will need to fit a water pump of some sort to the engine. You may be able to find a Rotax snowmobile MAG cover with one built into it.

I would never say this on a RZR forum... but I think the guys putting big $$$ into turbo'ing a RZR are idiots. Two main reasons why...

1) How much power do you expect a rubber belt to hold? (The CV trans)
2) Why spend the $$$ on the stock engine when there are other cheap engines out there.

Personally... I would use a modern 600cc spot bike engine. That way, you would have high RPM... about 135 hp... a shifting transmission, and full parts support. Besides... you could buy a wrecked sport bike... sell everything you don't need... then sell your RZR engine... and in the end... you may actually make money when it's all said and done.

I guess I was thinking about this as more of an engine swap than a full blown engine and drive-train retrofit. The CVT's and belts can handle 100hp, possibly more if you spend money on some good clutches. But even with the clutches and used rotax engine you are still way less than any turbo rzr engine...and it just seems so much cooler having a two stroke engine. :coolgleam:

But ya, agree with you about the $$$ and guy's turbo'ing RZR engines. I guess if you have money to blow it isn't an issue but you are better off getting a busa rail of some sort for half the price in the end.
