787 doesn't turn over with spark plug wires conncted

98 Speedster, another issue. I saw that my charger was on 6v for over 24 hours, when I went to start it I would only get on or 2 revolutions before it stops. If you remove the plug wires it will turn over as many revolutions as you hold the start button. Re-attach the plug wires and it goes back to 1 or 2 revs before stopping.

Any random idea's? This boat seems to have more trouble than I can keep up with. It will be sold in the next month.

Where you charging the battery because it was dead? Did it run fine before? Sounds to me like it just has a dead battery. Wth spark plugs out, there is less compression and it is easier to turn, so lower voltage will crank it.

whoa, foster with the red lights, lookin good......he stated that it would crank when the "wires" were off i dont think he was actually taking out the plugs.....or were you?

I know a car will crank real slow when the ignition is way too advanced...

Yeah, the plugs are not being removed but without the wires the motor will spin. Once I plug the wires in it semes to be having some sort of electrical issue.

The battery wasn't dead..I leave it on a trickle charger becasue its constantly in a lake and I don;t want to bildge to quit and always like a charged battery when I head out.

My beeper for the security beep and potential problem codes doesn't work so I wonder if it might be trying to send me a code.

Most of all, I am worried that th 6volt charing on the 12 volt system casued a problem in the Electric module...I hope that isn't the case.

Did the dead beeper just start too? If so then i would guess it did fry the MPEM.

No, actually the beeper has not been working for a long time. You can hear a faint sound from when you plug in the lanyard...I think it got a little too wet some time ago. I am thinking about replaceing it now to hear if there is any code coming from it.

Thankfully I just got one engine to start after draining and recharging the battery, it was suggested to do this on another site. After I stopped the motor, I would then get 2 beeps when I attached the lanyard and then 4 short beeps when I tried to start. And the mission continues!!

This boat will be for sale, cheap money....as soon as its all good to go again.

That was my first guess back on my first reply.
It really does sound like a battery issue. I would get a good new battery and check all the connections, especially the ground wire.

Yeah, it's deffinately is a good troubleshooting step. But, ultimately, I am still getting the 4 short beep code which, by my manual, means its not in nutrual. It is definately in nutrual and I have tried moveing the drive lever around. It will still spin by the starter if I remove the plug wires but it cuts out after 2 revolutions when the spark plug wires are connected and throws 4 short beeps. It seems there is something telling the engine electricity to stop and its beeping as a nutrual code. I still have to look at some wireing but I am just looking for hope that I don;t have to search for a new (or used or repaired) MPEM.

is there a neutral saftey switch or something that could have gone bad??? just an idea
