I'm looking at getting a gtx. I've noticed the years I'm looking at are either direct injection or 4 tec motors. I've read about the D.I. motors being hard to diagnose and the supercharged 4 tecs having washer issues. Which motor is more reliable? Easier to work on? Cheaper to work on?

If you want reliability, and easy to work on... buy a carb'ed 2-stroke, or a brand new 4-tech.

The Di engine isn't any harder to diagnose than the 4-tech. The injection system will cost about the same to fix, for the same problems... but an engine rebuild will cost much less on the Di.

Thanks for the response. When you say brand new 4tec, do you mean 2010? Looking at getting the 3 seater mainly for wakeskating behind but I also want something that won't get left in the dust by my xp. The years I were looking at are 2000 - 2004, maybe up to 2006. I own both two stroke and 4 stroke dirt bikes and i'm also a do it yourselfer who would be doing most of the maintainance so thats why I'm looking at two strokes. So what are the differences between earlier 4tecs vs. later 4tecs? Maybe I should save a year or two and get a 2008 and up. Any opinions would be helpful as I am lost.
