This just started. I bought the ski brand new in April 2015. It has 85 hours on it now. Last oil change at 50 hours. It has developed this whining sound that I'm not quite sure what it is. It sounds like a power-steering pump whining in a car. It is instant from the second you start it and follows through the entire RPM band. It's hard to hear with the seat up, but very clear with it down and in the water. You can kinda hear it in the you-tube links. There is no performance loss. Ran it yesterday and gets up and goes with no issue topping out around 68 mph. Doesn't sound like supercharger to me. But the sound is concerning to me as it's definitely a sound I haven't heard until now.

Please let me know your thoughts and recommendations. It is still under warranty, but if I can avoid taking it in, I'd like to.
Thanks,

Regan

Could be the supercharger, but most likely if your not being effected performance wise you should be all good. I recommend at the the end of the season just to rebuild the supercharger... Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

SC do whine...
It may have more free play in it as compared to when new and less hours. As you are 15 hours out of 100 hours, I would send it in to this site for a rebuild.
If you are worried, pull it and send it in, they will rebuild it the day they get it under normal circumstances and send it right back..

We can do a free inspection on your supercharger for you if you like. The hours are getting really close for rebuild though.

I don't believe it's the SC. I can hear the SC spool up beyond the whining. Thank you for your posts, comments and service suggestions. I am going to take it in to Barney's where I bought it and let them take a look at it since it is still under warranty.

That's not normal, take it to your dealer.

SeaDoo now recommends 200 hours between sc rebuilds on the newer sc.

after listening to it 3 times, ya, it sounds different from the SC whine, actually I can't hear the SC at all but its difficult to be sure. I'm listening to a phone recording on a laptop's little speakers.

I think the last two guys are right, worth looking into some culprits which might include the PTO bearing? (dunno)

If I remember, I'll try to do a similar recording Saturday when I go out, although my exhaust might override whatever sounds you might hear.

I'm with the others,,

You need to be looking at the various bearings. Impeller area is a likely culprit.. I assume you have the Cabon Seal, but if not, then the Carrier Bearing may be going bad..

Rebuild the jetpump. The bearing is bad. My ski is making the same noise so I pulled the pump and spun it by hand to verify.

Thank you for all of the posts..! After taking it to the dealer, they did confirm that the pump bearing seals failed and they need to rebuild. Hopefully I'll get it back soon..!

makes sense that it was the pump bearings, now I guess we'll know for the future :)

I did record mine, and all I could hear was the SC spooling up, certainly a different noise.
