2012 GTI SE - Coolant drain plug broke off in ride plate

Doing the 15 point pm (3 deep video as my guide) on my two 2012 gti se's and I broke off the coolant drain bolt tightening it to 75 ft lbs with my torque wrench? I didn't have my torque wrench for the first one and tightened it by feel so it's ok. But the second one has 90% of the thread left in the ride plate. Now that I think about it 75 ft lbs seems a lot for a 1/4 stainless bolt...
In any case - am I ok leaving the thread in there as long as it doesn't leak for the next few seasons until it s time to deal with it?
Any suggestions on what I would do if I have to get it out. Is it hard to remove the ride plate? Easy out for a 1/4" bolt??

Which would be 6.25 foot pounds.

Yes, if it doesn't leak it will not be an issue.
 
It will leak, if not right away, I'm guessing soon. The seal on that is not on the threads. It is on the small washer or head of the bolt that seals against the flat on the ride plate. Identical to most oil plugs on cars.

Drill a hole and use an EZ out and it will come right out. Most large bolts aren't even tightened to 75 ft lbs., better check your specs again.

If you use a left hand drill bit, get the hole started then slow birdies and press very hard. It often grabs the remaining stud and threads right out.
 
Yes. Procedure is in your manual. You enter the IBR bypass via the mode and set buttons. Then you raise and lower it via the VTS buttons.
 
well it seems my manuals are at the cottage and the machines are here in the city - my 2012 gti se doesn't have a vts button. It has a mode/set button and a up/down button on the right grip...

Use up/down button where it says vts below.

1. Press the START/STOP button.
2. Install the D.E.S.S. key.

NOTE: Do not start the engine. The D.E.S.S. key
must be installed to ensure the information center
will not shut off all indications after its self test
function. Electrical power will stay ON for approximately
3 minutes.
3. Press the Mode button on the RH handlebar repeatedly
until SETTINGS is visible in the digital
display of the information center.
4. Press the SET button (RH handlebar) to display
DOCK MODE.
5. Press the UP/DOWN arrow button to display
iBR OVR.
6. Press the SET button to enter iBR OVR function
and display OVR OFF.
7. Press the UP/DOWN arrow button (RH handlebar)
to display OVR ON.
8. Press the SET button to select the OVR ON
function. The gauge will return to its normal display.
9. Press the VTS UP or DOWN arrow button to
move the iBR gate.
Deactivating iBR Override Function
To deactivate the iBR override function, carry out
one of the following:
1. Repeat previous steps and press the SET button
when OVR OFF is visible.
2. Wait for the electrical power to shut off (wait 4
minutes).
3. Start the engine.
NOTE: When the engine is started, the iBR OVR
function is deactivated and the iBR gate will move
to the neutral position.
