Pulled my GTI out of storage yesterday and went to start it and got - Limp Mode after hitting the start button.
It doesn't actually turn over. The engine light comes on for a brief moment and then the Limp Mode message comes across.
According to the manual it says, "Limp Mode is major engine fault"

Any ideas or suggestions?

I had it on a trickle charge all winter. however I do think it's an older battery, prob 3 years!
I put a meter on it and it shows 12.33 volts. But what I haven't done is check the meter while I'm trying to start it. Maybe with a load on it the charge is bad.
The weird thing is, when i turn the key it doesn't really do anything and I mean actually turn over.
I'll try that today and see if I can watch the meter while turning the key.

Your battery is only at about 60%. For reference, full charge on an open circuit would be 12.65, 11.9 on an open circuit is just about dead.

Thanks for the replies. That's actually better news than i originally thought. I know a really good battery shop by my house so i'll take it to them and load test it.

I'll keep this post updated so if this happens to someone else they'll know the results

Sorry for the delay in responding! It was the battery!
So if you try to start your ski and you get a check engine or Limp Mode message the first thing to do is check the battery.
Took it to a battery shop and sure enough it was fully charged but as soon as they put a load on it it went way below the cranking amps required.
So my panic of "great I did something wrong during winter storage" ended up only being a $100 battery.
Thanks for the advice!!
