I have an RXT 260is that recently had a problem where the intake was completely clogged with junk that got sucked up due to getting to close to some reeds etc. (had no choice as I was in a no wake narrow channel and several sheriff boats came flying through the channel at full speed, lights sirens and all....everyone forced to sides.

Anyway, I had to work my way through the channel and into some deeper water before I could clear out the intake. I tried to take it as easy as possible but it kept racing the engine (like a slipping transmission).

It ran fine for about the next 4-5 hours, but now when I go to start off quickly, it starts going fine, then the engine races, but no speed. Again, seems like a transmission slipping. Engine runs fine, its just not getting the power to the propulsion.....I am thinking its a wear ring issue from the research I have done, but wanted to get some feedback before I tear into it.

Any thoughts?

Can be,
Wear Ring
Debris in the impeller
Carbon Seal
Bad spline on the drive shaft.

Since you know you had weeds, take a very good look at the impeller from under and behind the ski. Look for something wrapped in there that you may have missed.

My older "96 GTX" had this same exact problem, I replaced the wear ring, and added new pump oil. Still didn't help! But then I came to find out it was the carbon seal.

CS is a common issue. Allows air into the impeller area and you lose performance.
