Hi looking at used 2011 GTI 130 with hours around 550 can they go longer without needing major work ?

it depends on how well the machine has been maintained through out its life..

550 hours is quite a bit for a ski, even one as reliable as the 130/155... unless your getting it for like 500 bucks, i personally would pass on that ski

MANY things factor into the answer. Salt water, fresh water, was it maintained as it should be, kid owned or adult owned. But I'm guessing with 550 hrs you are likely buying a rental ski. A ski used in fresh water and maintained well can easily get 10 years of use and never need major work. I have never owned a ski less than 11 years and I have yet to replace anything but spark plugs and one oil container that got a hole rubbed in it.

Yes it is a rental is currently in use I have had many skis but never with that many hours. I do know of many yamahas non supercharged with well over 500 hours on them. Fresh water only.

If it were me, I would assume that the motor is junk and that you will need to do a full rebuild of the pump and what not.

Rentals as normally SERIOUSLY abused. The riders have nothing in them and ride them like they stole them. So if you assume the engine is trashed, you can either barter for a better price and be prepared to spend the money when it happens.

I would think they would go for 1000-2000 hours if properly maintained. I once saw a pair of 05 RXPs with 550 hours each on the original superchargers!

I see your're in the midwest. There should be plenty of used skis around with less than 200 hours, I regularly see 06/07 with under 50 hours. The price would have to be really good for me to consider a high hour rental when there's other options. How much are they asking?

The aircraft engine from Rotax will go 1,800 to 2,000. Water cooled and air cooled and ran high rpm for long periods of time with a reduction to propeller. Diamond Aircraft - Katana

Personally, I would steer clear from it. That's a lot of hours of use/ abuse. For $3K, I think you can get something older/ less hours/ less abused

they will not go 1000-2000 hours. 500 hours is probably the average that I see before rebuild is necessary. I have never seen one make it to 1000 hours but it probably has happened and everybody would remember that one instead of the hundreds that I see that only make it to 200 hours before something lets loose. I've seen a couple 130s break rods at under 100 hours, that's what people should remember.

$3,000 for a 4tec GTI in my area is crazy cheap, especially a 2011 (assuming it runs and drives well). I'd say go for it and roll the dice on when you'll have to rebuild it.

Ski-doo has posted great info on what those engine typically do
