hi all,
need help as on hols and jetski wont start-was out jetskiing around and suddenly ski stopped
get 2 beeps when insert lanard and clicks but wont crank over-luckily other jetski out there that kindly towed back to ramp-took battery out and had it checked-tested ok and showed 12.3v.
I'm a dunce when it comes to any mechanical issues with my ski-is there any thing i should check before taking it to the local seadoo mechanic.
Much appreciated for any help.
cheers,
Pete.

Thanx tony-i'm a dunce and being a newbie i have no idea how to turn it over by hand-is it something easy to do?

Unfortunately, on a 4-tech engine, there isn't an easy way to do it. You will need to remove the pump, and diveshaft... and then use an impeller tool in the PTO.

BUT... once the pump is out... you may find that you seized a pump bearing.

Thanks Tony,
have no impellor tool.only just had ski in for 50 hr service.kids and wife annoyed as have no ski for hols.
will look at when return home-bit too much to take apart in resort carpark.
cheers,
peter

First thing I would check if I were you is to see that you dont' have a stick or rock stuck in your pump. If you have it on the trailer, crawl underneath, shine up the intake grate with a torch and see if you can see anything stuck in the impeller. Also look in the back of the nozzle to see if you can see anything. I have see all kinds of junk stuck in pumps, sitcks, rocks, old ski tow ropes, you name it.

If this isn't it, then follow Dr. Hondas advice to pull the pump to isolate if the pump or the engine is locked up. Note that with the right tools, you can pull the pump in 5 minutes. You only need a couple of 10 mm wrenches, and a 17 MM socket with long extension and ratchet. You should be able to buy these tools most anywhere you are.

got news that the SC stuffed and need total rebuild.??unsure as to why, as ski has only done 55hrs.. Wife/kids not happy, as is dad.

That sucks.....when SD went to metal washers in '08, unfortunately the washers they used were a bit brittle and tended to shatter.

When you say "needs a total rebuild" you mean just the SC needs rebuild, right? Usually if the SC goes catastrophic, you only need to rebuild the SC and the associated parts in the front PTO cover...unless all the bits got into the oil and trashed the crank as well...

Bits of SC housing into engine-dont know wether to do engine rebuild to fish out any bits or just do SC rebuild. SD dealer(we get ripped here in Australia) quoted over $4k to do the lot.Should quit my day job to become a qualified SD mechanic.

Without more information about what exactly went wrong, I would think that you should be able to pull the PTO cover and clean out all the nasty bits, inspect the oil pump and fix if needed, and check to make sure that the flywheel and timing chain are OK. Finally, a new SC would be needed. This should be more like a $1K job (even in OZ) vs $4K.

However, if the bits got into the timing chain and it snapped, locking things up, this is a different matter....
