hi guys,
looking for some help/info with a problem i have with my 2008 RXP215. it has had the problem from the day i picked it up and now myself and the dealer are scratching our heads and im hoping someone might have come accross a similar thing.

the problems-
fuel gauge not working
digital tacho not working (only reads 0rpm or 5000rpm but nothing else, the "bar graph" tacho is working!)
no compas (only has some funny codes that come up starting with "T")

things we have checked or replaced-
no error codes have come up at all
replaced information centre (still has same problems)
checked wiring to info centre and all is ok
reloaded latest software
when hooked up to his computer everything works correctly (ie fuel gauge)

other than this the ski is running great etc and doing everything else it should be.
anyone got any ideas?

thanks justin.

try disconnect clean & dielectric grease on electrical fittings and ground wires.
pull & blow air into fuse connections & grease. Look for any wire kink in loom.

Warranty....?

That's a 2008. Can I assume that you bought this ski new? If so, I can see why the dealer is scratching his head too. He's worried your gonna want your money back.

Justin, I see your from Tasmania but a sale is a sale. Warranty is warranty. You paid way, way to much for this ski to have it less than perfect. If this has been a problem from day one since you bought it, that means there is a lot of documented history on it.

I would kindly ask the dealer to take your ski and not return it to you until it's fixed. This is not your problem but one for BRP or their representatives, in which this case, your dealer.

If your results are less than what you expect, go to www.seadoo.com and look for their "contact us" link and start communication with a BRP representative. For the $10,000 (or more) US dollars one of these things cost, I'd want the thing to talk to me and tell me when it feels bad.

yes i purchased it new as a model run out 6 months ago, and i agree its way too many dollars to not have it 100% perfect!

it has been with the dealer for the last 7 weeks and we have made some progress with testing and its maybe looking like anothe info centre problem, seems unlucky to get two info centres with problems but you never know i guess and i have been told there have been a few problems with them.

just seems hard to get parts to swap into my ski and it is taking a long time, its just the start of summer here and the dealer is flat out, and the weather is getting better so for now i have picked up the ski so i can use it for the next month or two then ill take it back to the dealer to have it fixed.

the ecu has recorded no faults and there is no problems except for a few missing gauges so ill make do for now and enjoy the good weather.

thanks for your input.

Wow Justin, seems a shame that you have got this issue after paying a good price for this ski.

The RXP is one of the best selling skis on the market here in the US. I have not heard of any issues similar to yours. It would be a coincidence that two info centers would be bad. I think it's more likely going to be a wire problem. If the ski was shipped (which I'm sure it was) to your area, then it may have been rattled enough to shake a wire loose.

The short or broken wire, bad plug will not have any codes to register to the info center. That is part of the "engine management system" and really has nothing to do with your problem. That problem is totally an electrical problem, either related to the wire harness, plugs or even a ground wire.

I don't know if it's too late now but this dealer should have never let that ski go out without doing a full set of tests on it. I know, you might have been really eager to get it and try it out, but for me, it's my opinion that he should still feel the burdon, since he knew it was doing it from the very beginning. I sure hope your not paying this guy anything.

I'm at work now and don't have access to my manuals but I'll see what I can find out tonight or tomorrow that might help you out.

It's kinda a bummer to me because you are really not the one responsible for it, yet you seem to be the one who is working the hardest to get it fixed. You DO need that info center and you DO need it to relay the information to you on the engines condition. Without it and the dealers support, you could find yourself in a situation where the engine won't start and you'll never be able to find the reason, without that input from the info center.

I don't know much about your country but here, we have lemon laws that keep dealers from selling things that are not up to par as to what they say they are selling. If something is broken, you might be able to get a good deal by them subtracting a nice chunk of money off the final price.

Dude, I hope you get it worked out in your favor. I wish there was some sort of legal action you could take because this should not be something you have to deal with. You should be out ridin, having a blast, cuttin up the waves.....

Slightly Off Topic

Is USD10,000 a realistic price for a 2008 RXPX?

I am currently looking to update my 2005 RXP with a 2009 RXPX at over AUD20,000 (USD17,750). Maybe I should be looking at having a Holiday in the US and direct importing a ski.

Please let me know of any reputable outlets on the west coast as freight to OZ is around $3k

Cheers:cheers:

Value....?

Here in the states, when we want to sell or buy something, we usually use N.A.D.A or Kelly's Blue Book. These books will give the retail value of your boat, motorcycle, car..... etc...

I looked up your query and it's listed in Kelly's at $8955.00 USD. So, it would seem that $10K is a bit high for a used ski.

Here's the link to your question. http://www.kbb.com/personalwatercraft/retail/2008/sea_doo/rxp_x-supercharged-2_pass/233030

Re/2008 RXP info centre problems

Hi Justin,

Hope all is well....Did you have any luck fixing this problem?

I have the same problem with my 2008 RXP-X and still no luck in fixing it! Any help would be great!

Thanks.
Jeff,

Jeff,
yes i did end up getting it sorted, after replacing the gauge cluster and months sitting at the dealer! It ended up being a 5 minute fix and it never needed a new set of gauges, the info centre was not "flashed" with the correct ski info! after a lot of research on my part i went back to the dealer and i fixed it!

from memory (dont have the info here)
hook it up to BUDS
go to "module menu"
then "cluster"
then "update"
then select the correct ski model and save the changes.
hope this helps!
justin.
