Trying to help a friend figure out what his problem is. He has a 2006 GTi with the 130hp motor. If you accelerate full throttle for longer than a few seconds or try to run above 30-35 mph the engine derates and throws an exhaust temperature code. Once you let it cool off or pull the key out it's good to go again. We removed the middle clamp on the j-pipe, cleaned the exhaust sensor. Everything looks normal in there. Not sure what the problem is now. I'm not very familiar with these skis so maybe somebody can shed a little light for me. Thanks

There are two heat sensors I believe and they are known to simply fail. They do go bad and throw a code, they shrink the normal parameters and throw a code. If ti were mine, I would replace them both as BRP has an updated version o them..

Thanks.i know there is one right after the j-pipe, but where is the other one?

Also the three holes aren't stopped up either.

Have you done a good flush? Could be that the cold water intake is clogged. When it throws the code, when you take the seat off does it seem hot?

It worries me that it does it at higher rpm and then cools down and resets. My experience with sensors (not brp sensors, more industrial) is that when they fail they short or send erratic data, not go out of range.

Here are the three temp sensors. One is the intake so that's not the issue.

Although I see two part numbers, I can only find the location of one of them.

And the part number is updated.

Disconnect the water line feeding the j-pipe. Blow into it. Reconnect and take her for a spin. Sometimes crap will get caught in the screen at the pump.

It's been flushed with the water hose and everything seems good. Intake grate is clean. He just got this ski but it is super clean. All of the water hoses looked really clean inside as well.

The temperature seems normal for what you would expect. You can hold your hand on the muffler can.

I will check and clean the water screens.

We didn't mess with he temp sensor in the head since it was only giving an exhaust temp code.

If it were mine,,, I'd hook up to a CanDoo Pro or BUDS system and see what is actually happening,,

After looking that over, that would be the coolant temp sensor wouldn't it? This engine is liquid cooled and as far as I know the only outside water that comes into the hull is for cooling the exhaust.
