I have a 2005 sportster that cranks fine on the first crank, it might crank okay on the second, third and fourth, and then again it might not. Two beeps and it acts as though the motor is seized or the battery is low. Upon hooking a jumper pack or another battery to it, it still won't do anything right away, you generally have to wait a few minutes, then motor turns over like it is supposed to. Take the jumper battry off and motor will still turn over like it's supposed to. The problem then is you have to try cranking maybe 10 to 15 times to ever get her to fire off.

I would remove, clean, and re-install all the larger cable connections first. They can get corrosion behind them, and give you a low power situation.

If that doesn't fix it... then you will need to rebuild your starer. (or replace it)

I have removed, cleaned, and reattached cable connections.
Not questioning your response, but I have seen a few people on here with similar problems, and the starter relay was the problem. Could it be?
Also do you know how to load test the battery?

Sounds like a bad battery. Take the battery to almost any chain type automotive store like auto zone, advance auto, pep boys. They can test it.

Funny! I went out to do some diagnosis. Battery was bad in my multimeter. Tried cranking the boat, and guess what? Would turn over fine, but crank? No way. Pulled plugs and they all look fine, in fact they only have about two hours on them. Oil was slightly milky and I mean just barely, could be from condensation I think.
