2004 gtx starter problems ( click click )

When I try to start my 04 gtx Wake and it only clicks at the relay and nothing else happens. The motor doesn't try to turn. I tried tap starting the relay and dont get a spark. I took out the starter and hooked it up to the battery and tested it. The starter stared spinning off and on and then began spinning freely. I hear starters can get locked up, And once starters lock up, and get freely running, it is a sign that the starter is beginning to go out. Is that true ? could it be the relay ( i replaced the relay with in the past 3 months ) Thanks for the help in advance !

I would start with battery. Put it on a slow charge for a night and try it again in the morning. Or if you have a boost pack, hook it up in parrallel with your battery and try that. The clicking you are hearing is your starter relay, so its doing what it should. Try a different battery, or charge yours or hook it to a boost pack and try again.

the battery is practically new, and we used the same battery to test to starter

Have you jumped the solenoid? this will tell you if it is the starter or the solenoid or the battery or possible bad connection.

sometimes when the brown solenoids go bad, they click but they don't transfer voltage. the newer black solenoids appear to be better, time will tell.
