Just bought a 2004 challenger and had it on the water twice. Both times after a couple hours of tubing (3 kids on tube) the engine started to bog down and wouldn't go over 5000 RPM's. Last weekend, stopped using it when that happened but today tried to push through it. Boat would bog down by times and then pick back up, almost seemed like a fuel issue. Found a plug wire tonight that was loose and tightened that but didn't seem to resolve the problem! Help, I'm anything but mechanically inclined!

It is the RAV valve on the exhaust pipe. Clean and make sure the Vac line is not cracked and it is getting good vac to make it work. This is where I would look first.

His doesnt have RAVE valves. It is a merc motor. The merc tends to have fuel issues. I dont know much about it, but I know there are fuel problems that are talked about here. Try searching, I think they have a couple filters you may need to change.

You could check your plugs. I have found that there is a few different types even in the correct heat range. You need the solid core not copper core plugs. There is a big difference in the two. I like the NGK plugs for my two strokes. I run the NGK BR8ES solid core. You can tell because the wire end if copper core you can turn the end off. Solid core you can not turn the wire end off. Solid will not give you any resistance the copper core will and this will slow the spark down till the plug gets hot.
