I got a little sluggishness every now and again with the 2003 just off idle when I throttle up. I just did the top end as well as going through the whole ski per my routine. Genuine Mikuni kit and all that. I didn't rebuild or check the accelerator pump though. Been a while since I fooled with it and lots of skis in between but.... I don't wee any adjustments on the single carb. If it had an adjustment I'd give it a 1/4 turn of fuel on the low speed. LOL Thoughts?

Get a carb for it that has adjustments...

You have the tamper resistant one like mine came with and I had the exact same issue. I spent 3 seasons messing with that carb and drilled out the tamper caps and cleaned it a couple times and everything was perfect. It is the only carb I ever gave up on.

I broke down and bought a new one from OSD without the tamper proof caps and the ski has been running perfectly ever since.

That carb also uses different high and low screws than any other Mikuni carb.

No kidding !! LOL Riding on the river I pulled over and felt around under that air box for 10 minutes trying to find the adjusters. I gave up, came home pulled the air box and still couldn't find them. Ole Gene knows how to deal with the tamper resistant caps. That's how we adjust our race bike carbs to get them spot on. Thanks for the heads up. :) Carb is coming back off and we're gonna make it Tamper Friendly. LOL I might have a carb if one in the 98 GS Fits. I'll check. Thanks for the head up bro !!

The caps aren’t the problem it’s the screws. I’m not sure if the o-rings are different or if they leak air. I even tried filling over them with RTV and nothing ever made that carb work correctly. I got tired of loosing riding time so for a couple hundred bucks I have a perfectly running GTI. It’s a known problem carb and not worth the time and trouble.

You have a point but you know I gotta try. LOL Did you get a carb with the accelerator pump or nix that and rejet?

Thanks Man. Always giving me good stuff to think about. :D Ski doesn't run bad just every now and then off idle I get a little flat spot. Smart move would be to buy a new carb. LOL

Had the same issue with a brand new carb from OSD. Gave 1/8 turn to low speed and it improved it. It still hesitates a bit but if I just hit the throttle gently for a fraction of a second, then release it and then go to WOT immediately it really kicks!

I was thinking that if I lower the Pop-off to the minimum that might richen the mixture up the tad it needs without going further. I might give removing the caps a try first though. Not much to lose and it won't hurt anything if I'm looking at a new carb anyway. :)
