Where is this thin located??? Looked over ski and can't find it. I'm no rookie but this type of ski never worked on. It is also not charging battery when running. 12.4 volts when starting. 12.2 volts when running. Brand new battery. Don't know if it's stator or rectifier...:(

So if the doo shows no sign of charging battery... The stator is the culprit???

Some are and some are not. I do not know in your case. If someone does not get you an accurate message, I'll contact other mods to confirm this for you...

I know on my 1999 XP it's integral to the mpem. I cut the three yellow wires at the mpem and spliced in an aftermarket one.

You are brave! Where did you get the idea to do that? Well I went over manual yesterday and there does not seem to be a rectifier that is removable. The xp is def not charging battery. Voltage does not go up after start and rev. Maybe other 951 carb owners can chime in. Maybe the charging circuit takes 10 sec before charging? I really did not give it time. Some history... We bought this xp on eBay. Looked good. Went to look at it. Looked great. Took it home. Found 10 problems and counting.
The other day we dropped in water first time and it started and idled but no rev. Anything after 2500k it would stall and die. We took jetpump off and the wearing was toast. Bits and pieces gone everywhere. We started it on the water like 30 times. There is no way that diehard battery is that good!! So it must be charging. We replaced the wearing...and adjusted carbon ring. Had water in hull after puttin around. I'm just rambling on.
Do these 951 carb engines usually run away on trailer if you rev em high???it seems to do this only if you rev it good n high.
One more question...how do you get the flame arrestor out? Do you have to remove exhaust? Uggghhh...

ok... ummm

1. the functions of a rectifier are built into the MPEM. Your lack of charging is most likely due to a bad stator. If someone pulled the stator cover, they may not have put it back on correctly, allowing water to enter.

2. No, you do not remove the pipe to remove the air box. - you remove the oil tank, air horns, and slide it forward.

3. you can test the stator, you'll need the factory service manual and a multimeter, however I'd bet it's shot.

4. being an XP, you can actually remove the stator w/out removing the pipe or carbs, I've done it. twice.

5. if you get tired of this ski, I pay cash :)
