I have an 02 GTX RFI 2 stroke, at one point I had to lift the engine out to replace a plate under the engine that cracked from improper winterization.

It drove okay for a while but eventually it started to act like it was in limp home mode, where it wouldn't go more than 10-15 mph. It would kick in and out the modes, its bad mode to its good mode like a switch, nothing in between, good or bad.

I did the regulator rectifier OEM replacement (which I now see was a mistake not getting the heavy duty one), its gonna be another week till I get the battery in it to test it, do you think replacing the regulator was the right move for my symptoms? I don't remember if it had a 12v low light on last season and I never got around to reading the volts.

Otherwise, my ski is 10 years old, and has 60 hours on it, it's the 2 stroke, fuel injected 787 motor, I owned it since new and never really have done any maintenance to it, I also can't seem to find my manual, if someone could give me a run down on some of the maintenance I should do to get it running good, that would be great!

Did you check the regulator before replacing it?? Yes, a bad reg will cause wacy issues... but if it wasn't bad... then it doesn't mater.

So... you need to figure out which cyl isn't firing and why. That part is easy... just grab a sparkplug. The cold one will be the cyl that isn't firing.

If both are hot... then it's a fuel supply issue, and I would check your pressure.

If one is cold... then figure out if the injector has goen bad... or if you lost spark.

Okay sounds good, I will report back once I get the battery, install it and take it for a ride. So if it has a dead cylinder it would cause the ski to go into limp home mode?

All I can do is hope it was the rectifier!

This could be a case of cause and effect, when a ski goes into limp mode it runs on one cylinder, so the question could be what's causing the ski to go into limp mode.
