Hey guys, need some help.. Im new to this, and my jetski turned off on me on the lake.. I have 2002 SEADOO GTX 4tech only had 35 hrs on it... i tried to start it back on and it wouldnt start.. It would Click but not start.. took off the spark plugs , because i thought water might have got in the motor and it turned over.. when i put the spark plugs back the motor wouldnt turn it would just click.. like the motor was stuck.. All in all i took it to the dealer, and they thought it was battery but that wasnt the case, turns out they told me the motor locked up and the rocker arms were broke when they took off the cover.. they told me i had to get a new motor because the labor would be the same just to fix it.. they told me about SBT.com but they also wanted 17 hrs of labor. so 1700 dollars just to do the swap.. i found the whole "rocker arm assmebly" online that maybe i can just replace the (rocker inlet/exhaust and rocker shaft) for pretty cheap.. just curious would the motor need to be pulled out to replace the rocker arm assembly since its the top part ? thanks for the help..

Usually when a rocker arm breaks it is because a valve and piston met which in turn broke the rocker arm. Now when that happens a rocker arm is the least of your worries. If the motor isn't turning over a new rocker arm assembly will do you no good. You have a junk motor that will need to be replaced or reworked.

If the motor does turn , can I replace rocker arms without pulling the motor?

In theory, yea you could. However, a broken rocker arm is usually a result of a catastrophic failure somewhere else in the motor (ie piston valve contact or broken timing chain). I'd hate to see you waste time and money on something that won't solve your issue.

I'm in total agreement with KK40384. The broken rocker arms are just a symptom of some major failure that's deeper inside of the engine. The engine needs to come out and be disassembled in order to know what the extent of the damage is. It doesn't sound good.

Agree,,,

It is a cause and affect thing.

Something broke it and you need to determine what before spending any money on parts.

Got you, thanks again guys for the help>> so yah i went to see if the motor would turn. Only clicked.. i guess ill be calling SBT for a rebuild.. Thanks again guys for your help.. How long does it take to pull the motor ? few hours ?
