So I have a bit of an issue.... Whenever I take my ski out it works like a charm for about the first 10-15 minutes. After that, the CHK ENG light comes on and I get the tone. I didn't even think to hit Set 5 times when it happened. It eventually went away then came back. I can't get it to happen on the hose most likely do to the fact that I'm not running it as long on the hose (not that I wanna run it for a long time). But it doesn't enter limp mode or anything. It runs normally. Anyone have any ideas?

After the first 10-15 min....away from the ramp...you're doing tight doughnuts? Only time I've ever seen the the light come on...ride plate wasn't able to cool well enough do to being somewhat outa the water...for extended periods of time. Oil lvl okay? should be between the bends on a lvl and warmed up motor.

Does the alarm go away after a bit...or is it on and stay on...till the ski cools down?

Check the screens between the pump and the hull. Might have some garbage clogging one and reducing water flow to the exhaust.

No it's just straight sailing. Going out of the no wake zone. The buzzer and light goes off after a bit. Then it's hit or miss if it comes back or not. Oil should be ok. I had it in the shop because there was a corroded pin on a connector. They checked the oil and also lubed the splines on the drive shaft. It seems that it goes away once I get moving. Sounds almost like the liquid cooling sensor is getting hot. Can this be possible? I'll have to check the screens to make sure it's clear.

If it says CHK ENG, then it's not the exhaust overheat sensor, that will say HI TEMP. Could be a few things, like rectifier or other sensors. As you know, you need the code to know for sure.

I looked in the service manual for HI TEMP and I couldn't find anything. Which section would it be under? I won't be able to get any sort of code or do any t/s until wednesday.

The 2003 4tec service manual is a little better. It appears in a few different sections.

The oil sensors go in these often as well and there is 2 to replace. But the code will confirm exactly what it is.

I can't recall exactly and you could search through this forum but IIRC you can get the code to flash by plugging the key in and
Pressing the mode 5 times quickly or something. I'm likely wrong in the semantics but it's in this forum somewhere.

Then again I've had quite a few pops today and may be just loopy and my memory is hazy at best.

Someone here will either correct me or link it for you. There are great seadoo ers on here.

Instrument Cluster Corrosion

I had a similar intermittent problem last summer. It turned out to be corrosion in the instrument cluster.

It's a long story; bottom line, when I was looking over the skis (prior to purchase last summer) one ski blew the 1A fuse for the instrument cluster; I was confident I could fix it, so I went ahead with the purchase. After searching this forum and reading my Sea Doo manuals, I came across a thread that said older instrument clusters had problems with water intrusion. We replaced the 1A fuse and got the instrument cluster working, but the corrosion was causing all sorts of erratic readings, error codes, beeps, and the occasional overheat warning. The ski was running great, but he queertrons were making my life hell. I pulled the cluster out, took it apart, and voila! Once I replace the information center all was well.

Dang that's crazy. I'll have to look into that as well! Did you happen to find out where the water was coming from?

No, I never put it back together and put it under water to see where the bubbles were coming from. The way Sea-Doo designed the cluster is not the best. With the angle the cluster mounts in the ski, the pictured connector sits right at the bottom where the water (if it gets in) collects.

If you decide to take your information center apart to check, just take your time. I cracked the lens during the disassembly, but no matter. It was a mess inside and needed to be replaced anyway. Seeing you have an '02, you may have the same problem that I had.

Well, I found the issue. It is the OSPS by the front of the engine. It only happens after 15 minutes of warming up and then 15 minute intervals after that. No limp mode or anything, just CHK ENG and the light as well. I was on the water and had to hit SET 5 times to get the code of P-1202. I knew the sensors were faulty and there was an update to them. The guy that owned the ski before me replaced the other sensor but not this one for some reason. So once it comes in I'll swap it and let you guys know what's up!
