2002 GTX 4-Tec Check Eng/12V Low

I've just bought this machine with 66 hours on it. Took it out for a spin yesterday and was working well for a while. Then we realized that oil was pooling underneath the engine and there was no oil in the tank. Quickly took it in and realized there was a hose that seemed to have come undone. We fixed that and the oil leakage stopped.

Anyways, when it started, the gauges/speedometer didn't always turn on. Then randomly during a ride it would go into limp mode and it beeped/gave me the 12v low and check engine error codes. I tried pressing mode or set 5 times like I read but no specific code came up. Eventually the battery died and I was able to start it with a small generator with jump cables.

So I plan on getting a new battery, assuming this one hasn't been replaced since it was bought. I hope this will fix the 12v problem, but not the check engine. Perhaps one will fix the other, but I'm not sure. Also, I looked inside again and noticed a fuse had fallen out (green w/ 30 on it). I tried putting it back in but dropped it and have to buy a new one.

So, any suggestions are welcome. If there's anything else I can do to posisbly fix this stuff, please let me know. I bought it from a dealer and they checked it out so I'm somewhat suprised it's having these problems.

Thanks!

Edit: should i be using a specific type of oil? And where can I get a manual for this thing?

Hi,

If you become a premium member, you can download the manual for that ski.

As far as the 12v low... chances are the regulator/rectifier unit has gone bad. I would start with checking the coils in the stator, and charging the battery. If the coil is OK, and the battery takes a charge... then replace the regulator.
