Hi
I just purchased a 2001 sportster LE with 130 hp and had it out for a couple of rides, worked fine but last weekend i tried to start it. The strangest thing happened when i turned the battery terminal knob to the on position the engine started to turn over. I played around with the f/n/r shift and it stopped but now i can turn over the engine with out using the DESS key ,I dont hear any beeps to indicate security, checked the spark plugs to see if their was any spark (no spark) I cleaned the key and tried to press the start button 5 times to reset it but i cant, it just turns over the engine every time i press the start button.(even if i dont have the DESS key in) any help will be appreaciated.
Thanks

Solenoid....

It sounds to me, your solenoid, or more commonly referred to on boats as the starter solenoid, needs to be replaced.

This relay is an electro-magnetic switch. It has a plunger that when engage, draws together to close the circuit. When the circuit closes, the power is energized directly from your battery to your starter.

Because you don't have the DESS in place, it should not start, just turn over.

You need to replace it with part part #16. We carry this part at the Seadoowarehouse.

hi seadoosnipe
I tried a new Solenoid and that did not work its doing the samr thing as before. The engine turns over for a second when i put my DESS key in . almost as if that replaced the peep sound of the DESS system.
any help please.
Thanks

Checked both the 5 amp fuses on the computer and they are not blown....... but if i take the fuse out and put it back in the engine turns over for a second if that means anything.
