2001 Seadoo Sportster LE. Just got it!

Got the last package. They are sitting at the border now. So I guess I have everything to rebuild the pump now.

Any suggestion about remove the yellow stuff/coating on the inside surface of the pump housing? I could just used a screw driver to scrape it off, but I would think there is something just resolves it.

Update with no updates.

Going to see Mickey for 10 days. I will pick up the parts at the border on the way back.

Planning to finish the pump rebuild at the end of Nov.

Since I haven't done the winterization, I am going to put a electric heater in the garage just in case the temperature drops abnormally.

Ontario eh? Man, you're gonna have to wait for the spring thaw to test it out at this point. I just took my Challenger out here in NC and it was damn chilly at WOT!
 
Yeah, waiting for the spring now. I will take my time to rebuild the pump and go through the fuel system in the winter.
I hope by rebuilding the carbs it will fix the low speed issue I had.
 
Need some help here. Busy on other things for the last a couple of weeks. Now weather is cold and getting close to zero C.
I will be away for 2 weeks. Just debating between heating up the garage and minimum winterizing the boat.
Is there a minimum thing I could do to prevent the engine from freezing?
I will be rebuilding the pump and carbs soon.

Adding antifreeze, as per the manual, is really really simple. And it's your best bet for keeping those engines safe. A heated garage is a nice thing, until the power fails while you're away...

leaving on Monday. Want to do the antifreeze in the weekend.
I searched on Canadiantire.ca. There are a lot of antifreeze. Any brand name or model numbers I should use?

Doesn't really matter. All antifreeze these days is compatable with aluminum. I think the manuals recommend a 50/50 mix. Some people use the pink RV antifreeze as it is much cheaper.
 
Just looked at the manual.
LE model is much simpler than LT model. There are at least 4 hoses need to be pinched on LT.
But on LE model, only the water drain needs to be pinched, and disconnect engine water supply, put a temporary hose there to pour the antifreeze.

That will work, the price is way high. -50 RV/Marine antifreeze is $3.50 a gal. at Walmart, I bought it on clearance last year for $2.00 gal. you will want to use RV/Marine antifreeze because it's non-toxic, you can actually discharge it into the lake next spring.

Winterizing by myself, not sure about what I have done :-D

OK, I bought the prestone pink RV antifreeze.

I read the manual several times, then started doing it. I disconnected the black water hose at the nearest T joint instead right at the engine. I forgot to get the short "temporary" hose required by the manual. I thought my idea is better :-D Not sure if there is a booboo.

And I used the vise grip for the hose pincher, it is easy, you adjust the jaw spacing, and click, no turning screwing at the bottom of the engine bay.

Then I put the funnel in the water supply pipe started pouring antifreeze. Didn't know how much, I kept pouring, couldn't see the color indication that manual mentioned in a pipe, until I heard the water coming out of the big drain hole at the pump support. Then I waited for a 5 minutes, then took away the pincher. I heard a lot of water coming out at the back. I didn't act fast enough to see where was the antifreeze coming out, but it looked like from a smaller hole at the diagonal location from the big drain hole.

That's all I did.

I did it or I screwed :lol:

Your model is different than mine but if you followed the manual you should be good to go. If you're super worried about it you could also heat the garage like you initially intended. Some guys just use a trouble light left on in the engine compartment to generate some heat. I personally just use the antifreeze and then forget it till the spring.

I guess I should relax :-)
I will do another round in the morning just to see where does the water come out when I take away the pincher.

The water left in the bilge smells a little. What is the best way to get them out? I guess sponge is the last option??

the best is a shop vac or a medium size hand pump. The smaller the hose the better for tiny spaces.

remove the paper filter then use it for water. I would also empty the tank of all the dirt first too.
I do it all the time and no harm done.
 
Fiber Glass broken?

When I was doing the antifreeze today I noticed a potential defective fiber glass in the hull.

In the red circle, here the arrow pointed out, the surface is broken, not as solid as other area.
I pressed around the broken area, I fill "fluffy" underneath.

Not so sure about the hull structure, is the hull just one layer and other side is water?

I guess if it is a problem, I can just epoxy to fix it ?
 
Lucky, my wife forgot to close the garage door last night. The temperature dropped below freezing point.
Timing perfect.

Man! All this boat talk makes me want to start on my floating projects. I've been on a home/car improvement kick lately. Basically tending to all those neglected things I left off because it was boating season and way too nice out to do WORK in my free time :)
