Hey I have a 2093 XPDI that runs great so I bought a 2001 RXDI that started but needed work. I checked the compression and front 130 and back zero.
Can anyone tell me what may have caused the back piston to get destroyed? Looks like it got hot from lost lubrication?
See pics any any help is greatly appreciated!

Any recommendations for top end parts and where to get them would also help.

Thanks,
Mike

Looks to me like it was not getting lubrication and leaned out melting the piston.
What color is the oil in the oil tank?
Might also check the oil filter and see if it is indeed plugged.
From the looks of the other cylinder you will need to clean or replace the injectors.
How many hours? If it is approaching 200hrs, I recommend doing a complete rebuild.
I would go with OEM or WSM pistons. I have skis with both and both are great.

I can only go from what I have read on the DI engines but I know Bill O'neil tested all the DI pistons and he said the only ones that have the proper coating to survive in a lean burn DI were the OEM seadoo ones. He stated he would only use the OEM's at his shop.

Thanks jhjesse and mikidymac!
It has 128 hours and the oil looks dark red I think.
Does anyone know a good machine shop to have the cylinders bored in Northern California preferably near San Francisco Bay Area?
Can you get the OEM parts on eBay or other trusted sites?

As an alternative, I have had Group K do all of my machine work for the last 25 years and they are great. They build endurance racing 2-strokes so they know what they are doing and don't tell them their prices are still stuck in the 90's. I get all my OEM parts from Pro Caliber out of Washington.

I have no personal experience with the Ski Clinic but read good things about them.

Thanks mikidymac I will check them out as well!

mturboman: I am sorry for your loss! The top of the failed piston appears to have NO carbon deposits. That may be a clue. Did some water get in it? As for rebuild at 200 hours, I got more than 400 on the last one and know people that got more than that. We maintain them.
As for pistons, I have used SD, WSM and have had good luck with them.
PS I would love to have a 2093 XP but I dont think i will live long enough to see it! lol Good luck on your project!
