2001 GTX DI PTO repeated spark plug fouling

Hey everyone!

Just picked up a 2001 GTX DI over the weekend. Ran fantastic for about 3 hours (104 hrs on the engine) and we started to have issues. Previous owner was not original, had it for two years and claimed to only add gas and oil. One of the first things I did was put some seafoam and add some fresh oil.

As of last night, I've now replaced the PTO spark plug 3 times in the past 1 hour of riding. It appears like too much oil is being injected or it's not getting enough fuel. Not sure which. Either way the plug is black as can be and kills the ski.

I'm about to leave for vacation for a week and am debating dropping the ski off so it's in line at the mechanic (2 weeks before anyone can look at it peak season) or trying to fix myself. I haven't had the pleasure of working on many ski's before and honestly probably don't have the time to boot.

By chance has anyone run into this before? Should I just take it in and suck it up?

Thanks guys!

Your only easy get lucky fix on a DI is to check the oil pump adjustment on the front of the magneto housing. You will see the oil pump and arm and there is a line on the body and one on the pump arm that should be lined up. If not adjust the cable so that they are. If they are aligned already then good luck. The DI's are their own animal.

Also what oil is being used? Seadoo XPS API-TC or TCW-3 outboard oil?

I'll research and check the pump alignment. The oil I used was the XP-S II Synthetic. That's what our 2003 RX DI uses...did I screw up?

Just talked to the mechanic, he expects that it's a 900 job to do both injectors thinking that is the problem. Any idea what the part(s) would run? Do the injectors need calibrated or anything that I couldn't do in the driveway? I'm tempted to give it a go myself.

Update - Had the rectifier replaced...still having the issue. They did not ajust the oil pump, I doubt they even looked at it so I'm going to look at that myself when I get back in town from this work trip.

You could swap both and see if it still fouls on the front cylinder.

I've done the swap before and had the pleasure of running 5 different sets of plugs though both cylinders. It's only been the back. I'm hoping that today I can check the pump alignment ... just need to find the time.

The oil injection feeds both cylinders so if it is not aligned, it would foul both plugs. There could be an issue with the spring and nipple on the oil injection going into the PTO cylinder and leaks, but that you could test and see if the nipple holds vacuum.
