My friend has a 2001 challenger 14 with twin rotax 720's. His Starboard engine is tough to get started, but runs fine when started, as long as he does not let the throttle drop down to the minimum position. If it does go to the minimum position it will stall out. This makes for tough changes from neutral to forward or reverse.
We thought the carbs where the problem, so we did a total rebuild of the carb and fuel pump for that engine. New gaskets and diaphrams, new needle and seat. Removed Hi and low jets and cleaned enverything thoroughly with carb cleaner. Tested Pop off which was in spec.
We took the boat out on the weekend and low and behold the engine runs the exact same as before rebuild.
We did not remove or adjust the idle adjustment screw or the other "adjustment screw". This is our next course of action. I wanted to run this by you knowledgable people and see if you had any insight into this problem or my intended next step.
Thanks in advance,
Tyson
