I just bought a used 2000 Challenger with a replacement Mercury engine. The six cylinger Mercury cold/warm starts and runs fine. After towing for awhile and turning off the engine to switch out people, it won't restart. There's apparently no signal going to the starter, because it doesn't turn over. The forward/reverse lever is in neutral. That's apparently not the problem. After trying about a dozen times it suddenly starts up fine. I've read about a Engine Head Temp Sensor on the forum. Could that be the problem?

I had the same problem with hot starts except the motor would turn over...it just wouldn't start.

I replaced both the head temperature sensor and the sensor on the other head (the port side). That solved the issue.
