We recently bought a 99 speedster with the twin rotax engines. We took it out today and we have no throttle on the port engine and not much on the starboard engine either. Do we need to replace the throttle cables? Can they be adjusted? How can we tell? Are can anyone think of anyone else it maybe? Thanks Tammi

you need to be more descriptive.
how long from last time used?
Do you throttle and go no where but engines rev to 7K?
Can you get it plane?
Take off air cleaners and look down at butterflies as you throttle up.
You can either adjust cable there or take apart helm control.

We bought it from my husband coworker who didn't use it at all last year so it has been a while since it was used probably close to 2 years. When you push the throttle on the port engine forward it does nothing, the rpms do not move. We have removed the helm control but I will get my husband to check the the butterflies this weekend when he has some more time. We couldn't get it to do anything we took it off the trailer and out on the lake about a hundred yard realixed something wasn't right and tried to see what it was doing. We could get just enough throttle from the starboard motor to go in circles. I will keep you posted about what we find when we check the butterflies. Thanks

WOW. Where to begin then....
#1 is make sure gas is fresh.
#2 change spark plugs
#3 So engines turn on/idle but when you push throttle up Nothing happens?? No change in rpms?? Then cable to carb needs attention.

All adjustment should be with enging not running. First adjust the cable at the closed or idle position...with the control handle at idle position. carbs throttle valveshould be all the way shut. NO play at cable. Then push the conrtoll handle to full position. The carbs should be open at 90degree position. and wide open. there should be a small amount of play on the cable at this position.

yeah sounds like the cables are broken or not connected to the carbs.

Well We are starting to regret buying this boat. We have it at the dealer for repair, they contacted us and said that we need to replace both the throttle cables, but the don't make them anymore. So we have to get them aftermarket. Why would they discontinue something and not make a replacement. I have been told it is because it is older than 2000. The one can't be rigged in anyway (Right Hand) because it also operates the oil injection system. I have found them online. I am just wondering if anyone has any ideas.

Maybe this place can help. Ask if you can send in your broken one for template.
Well, after a week of try'n, i gave in, and needed to buy a new steering cable (97 challenger 1800). Upon search'n, it was then discovered that this particular cable has become OBSOLETE..:boxing_smiley: With numerous phone calls to different places, with absolutely no luck, stumbled on a place, that directed me to there vendor/supplier. With nuth'n to lose, went over there, boat in hand, and proceeded to show this company my problem.
Upon inspect'nw/ him, seems that, Seadoo used, whats called double-bulkhead design, inwhich, the "transom" used 11/16 fitting and "helm/steering" side, used 5/8 fitting. Problem with that, is the fittings that are required to work, cannot be used for "aftermarket" cable, since this companys' fittings use 11/16 for particular outer cable, and 5/8 for another size outer diameter cable. Along with this, when using 11/16 fittings, it excepts 5/16 dia. inner cable, where 5/8 fittings accommidate 1/4in dia inner cable. With this finding, on legal/safety, I was unable to sway'm into using 1/4in cable, thus no problem with 'helm" side, but not case...
So, with not much left to go by, ended up make'n cable, w/ 5/16 inner dia., and for everything to work, used whats called a "clamp" fitting on steering side.
Left original cable with him, few hrs later, had new cable in hand, woke up this morn'n, after re-clean'n carbs, decided now to install the cable. Low and behold, the darn MOFO fit like a glove, used same hard-ware, what came with boat, and now, after stop'n at DMV for paperwork/stickers, TRUK'N to lake, and rip this bad-boy around..(hopefully silicones' all sealed)

If anyone has this problem, place is called...Control Cables, 9816 Alburtis Ave..Sante Fe Springs, CA 90670...562-949-0455 ask for Vic

Ok so here is the lastest update. We can't get the one throttle cable that also operates the oil injection. I have another question tho. Could we bypass the oil injection and just mix the gas and oil, like on our old boat? I did call Vic at Control Cables and he isn't sure he can do anything with the cable, He is more experienced with the steering and not the throttle.

CaptSteve,

Great Avatar, where did you find it. I wouldn't use yours but I would'nt mind finding one similar. If you don't want to make it public PM me.

Actually, I stole it from somebody on the Corvette Forum. You can just right click on it and then save it to your disk.

Try these guys. http://www.speedsupplies.com/menuoemseadoo.asp
Their web site says they have them. I think the part numbers are;
204390077 CABLE-RH. $183.14
204390078 CABLE-LH. $183.14
Nice find.

Can I ask where you got the part #'s from? On their site (as well as the seadoowarehouse.com site linked above) they use their own internal part No description.

I need to order these two parts myself.

...they contacted us and said that we need to replace both the throttle cables, but the don't make them anymore.S... I have found them online. I am just wondering if anyone has any ideas.
Yep., I've been told disco'd as well.., but I find that hard to believe that nobody is making them aftermarket.

So when you say you have found them...you did? or only one of the cables you found? Your below post confused me.
thanks Steve but I have tried everywhere, their site says they have them but they don't.
Did you actually ask them/call or email? They list them available in their ordering shopping cart., did they get back to you?

Did you try seadoowarehouse yet? Price is 203 I believe, vice 183., but heck, if they have them in stock., can't go wrong.
