the jet ski cranks good on the trailor and revs good, then i put it in the water and it runs pretty good for about 5-10 mins and then it starts acting up badly and even when it runs good it still is very sluggish below 4k and then takes off like crazy when you get above 4k, when it starting running poorly is when you are running wide open and then stop all of a sudden, then you try to take off again and it acts like it wants to cut off, it still idles and starts up good it just doesnt take the gas, you can mash it easy and it wants to die and then mash it full throttle and it might make it to 3k and go 10mph tops, then ill put it back on the trailor and try to run it again the next day and the same thing happens??? i just bought it monday 7/5/2010?? it did this when i bought it, ANY CHANCE THAT THE CARB ADJUSTMENTS ARE JUST NOT CORRECT?

also, the gas gauge doesnt work?

Ok heres what i know about the ski, or what i was told about the ski.

1. new engine and you can tell, due to appearanace and paint condition, the previous owner said a newer engine was installed he said 2007/2008, not sure if thats possible or not???
2. carb's were justed cleaned out a couple of weeks ago and all of the fuel lines are not silver so apparently they have been done.
3. the fuel filter canister thats bolted to the upper hull area near the lift lid is very clean.
4. this jet ski looks awesome, almost new condition

any help is appreciated, i work on bmw's so i got alot of patience.....lol

i'd pull carbs ,and go thru them. Clear out the "squirters", pull the raves, clean them(valvles under black caps)....

should i clean the rave valves first and then see how it does, the guy i got it from said he just had them cleaned?

can the rave valves cause this?

did the "guy" also say, it worked last time i went to water? or, its ready for the water, now?

If you're going to spend the time and effort to take out the carbs, you might as well rebuild them. Mikuni recommends doing this every two years.

Clean your rave valves with carb cleaner if they are gunked up. Rave valves can affect your top end performance.

With regards to the fuel gauge - you should check the fuse labeled F1 on your fuel baffle. It should have four fuel lines attached to it on your fuel tank. You will have to cut a hole in the plastic towards the top of the baffle to see the fuse. Test for continuity at the fuse. If there is none, you can run solder across the fuse and it should fix your problem.

found a couple of things, first being the rave valves are brand new & move very smoothly, second thing is the low adjuster was out 2 1/2 turns & the high was out 2 full turns, i set low to 1 3/4 and the high 1/2 turn out, after this the idle was way off, then i set the idle to 2800rpms, third thing is one of the fuel lines on the selector doesnt even gave a clamp, someone left it on the nipple with no clamp, air leak maybe?..lol....i also changed the plugs, havent went to the water yet, but runs alot better on the hose

Fuel Selector

You should also check the fuel selector valve, either clean or replace.

You can bypass the valve just to see if thats the problem or part of the problem.

i just pulled the carbs off and i feel like a dumb a$$, for one i was only adjusting the 2 low setting and the idle, i thought 1 was high, 1 was low & 1 was idle, after pulling carbs i see 2 brass adjustments on the bottom with engraving on the carbs that say H, needless to say ive been adjusting the lows only, i proceed to check the high settings and the carb without the accel pump is almost at 0, it was about 1/4 turn out, the other carb with the accel pump was almost 3 full turns out, i can hit the accel pump and they shoot a nice stream of fuel and everything looks very clean, should i just set highs to 0 & lows to 1 1/2 and reinstall??
