1997 GSX problem! Help!!!

1997 GSX with carbed 787 engine. It will take off like a bat out of hell and then it just loses all its power and barely gets along. After putting along for awhile I can gas on it hard and it will scream for about 50 feet then back to putting along again. I've ruled out exhaust leak inside the ski by riding it with the seat off. Same results so I dont think its that, although I have that problem before. What do you guys think it could be?

sounds like carb had same problem tore dowm just cleaned runs great now

I agree, it sounds like a fuel delivery issue. Start with a carb cleaning, check the fuel filter, check the fuel selector. Something in there is blocking your fuel delivery and causing the bog downs.

Yeah, sounds possibly like trash in the fuel filter, or maybe in the tank itself. How does the ski idle??

I've got the same ski and fought this problem last year. CARB rebuild. Your filters are probably gunked up.

Do you have the "Grey" fuel lines? If so, replace immediately, then rebuild your carbs.:cheers:
