Gents, I have a 97 GSI with trim. I got the ski yesterday and brought it home. I hooked the battery up. When I did that the gauge and light came on and stays on for as long as the battery is connected. Ive tried taking the key off and on, hitting the start button x5. I'm am new to jet skis but pretty mechanically inclined. I've checked all the elect. Boxes, no water in them. Any help would be appreiciated!

Are you getting beeps when you put the lanyard on? Does it start and run?

The MPEM controls the power... so if it's staying on... either someone was playing with the wiring... or the MPEM is bad.

thanks for the response Dr Honda.. I am getting no beeps and it will not start by the start button... How would I go about checking the MPEM? (im guessing thats the computer??) Also, when I bought it they guys was saying that the 5a fuse kept blowing... however when I brought it home, i discovered one of the plugs going into the computer was loose. I secured it and it quit popping the fuse..

5a fuse is blowing................. Yep............ the MPEM is done. (yes, that's the computer)

Basically... there is a protector diode in the MPEM, and when it shorts/blows... it will take out the 5a fuse. (continuously) Some times you can cut open the MPEM, and replace the diode... but in this case, it sounds like someone hooked up a battery backward, and really blew it.

Not to be harsh... but I hope you didn't pay too much for it, because an MPEM isn't cheap. AND... knowing that is bad... there could be other issues.

****EDIT****

looks like your MPEM is around $525. (not a common unit) P/N 278000928

the fuse isnt blowing anymore...... would you still suggest that the MPEM is still trashed? I only paid $100 for the ski so its not so bad...

The gauges stay on almost like if you were in a car and once you turn the ignition all the gauges shoot to the top.... every single light stays on.....

also i told you wrong it is the 7.5 fuse that is blowing..

Ok just did some shooting, all of the fuses are good and no longer blowing.... I can crank the motor by the solenoid and it sounds good.... The thing is the gauge panel still stays lit up all the time.

Is there a way to "hot wire" it to make it start up? I want to make sure it runs before I go dumping money in it... As always thanks for the help!
