1996 gtx engine revs before the ski takes hold and moves

1996 GTX, starts just fine and idles fine. Upon excelleration the rpms shoot up ski starts to pick up speed then all of a sudden the rpms drop and the ski takes off as it should. Not an issue at high speeds just when you are taking off. Almost like it's slipping, is this an impeller problem? Bearing issue?

Cavatation for sure. Check the wear ring first. What is the gap between the impeller and the wear ring. Post a picture if you can. Can also come from the Carbon Seal. Since it isn't vibrating and it does ultimately take off strong, I doubt you have something stuck in the pump area.

I agree, it sounds like a classic case of cavitation, most likely the wear ring. Where in KY are you located?
