1996 gsx wont hold charge

I have a 1996 gsx that wont hold a charge ...the display keeps saying 12 volt low and after I charge it anduse it the battery drains any help would be appreciated

make sure battery is good. Have it load tested. If ok, then replace the rectifier.

Get ski fired up, then rev to 5500rpm, and then while at those rpm'z, check volts at battery. Above 15/under 13, rectifier bad.

Low Battery

Was having same problem with my 2001 GTX replaced battery and rectifier same problem. Mechanic told me yesterday most likely the Stator is bad.

How/Who, replaced your rectifier, when its "incorporated' into the MPEM?

Rectifier Replacement

Hello,
I replaced the rectifier. It was an easy fix located on top of electric box at the rear of motor. 2 pigtails only connection required. Was there a certain procedure to follow?

you can test the rectifier, by get'm motor started and rev to 5500rpm, then check volts at battery. if over 15/under 13, replace the rectifier
