Hey everyone

I've been cleaning up my trailer and lost a bearinf buddy in one side. I purchased 1.98 size bearing buddies but the pin in the hub nut seems to be hitting the center of the bearing buddie before it.can get.mounted. do i have the wrong size? I read some people have changed the pins to smaller ones but any help is appreciated!!

Thanks, kyle

You mean the cotter pin won't allow the BB to seat fully into the hub, right?

I guess the cotter pin is bent backward over the end of the axle and interfering with BB installation, in that case then bend the cotter pin elsewhere so it doesn't interfere with the BB installation, just as long as the cotter pin keeps the nut from unthreading is all it's there for. You can cut the open end of the cotter pins as necessary, or bend them around if you need to, often I bend them up around the sides of the nut if there's room, it just makes it a bit more difficult to remove the cotter pin for the next repack job, once a year if you pull out on the highway or any high speeds greater than walking distance.

Well if anyone is interested, upon closet inspection there was a reason the buddy popped off in the first place, the inner bearing fell apart and the hub was all over. Pretty dangerous this is the one time that it was good the boat didnt get used much this season. Anyway, refinished wheels.painted.them white, new hun assemblys installed. Little skeptical because the one spindle was chewed up but i will keep an eye on it. Thanks for in put

Yep, those bearings are supposed to be repacked annually so I guess it must've been past due or got water in it somehow but the BB keeps the hub pressurized if it's got grease pumped in it and the rear seal doesn't get pushed out the back of the hub. How'd the spindle look, just minor gouging?

Yes just some minor gouging, put the wheels back on today and while up on the jack stands they were spinning freely from just a touch so that made me feel a lot better plus the new paint on the wheels is a far cry from a grease covered rusty rim. Ill try to get a few pics up!

Thanks
