HI Everyone,

Finally got the new engine and to my Hand Brakes ( wifes) suprise it kicked over first time. it did sound a little rattley on start up but that has now gone.

I Only Started for a brief moment as the quick connector for the hose has dissapeared.

Two Questions i have. The engine seemed to over rev i mean compared to the starboard engine it was ready to take of. What could this be ? is it case of needing to actually let it run for a few minutes to get all the oil circualting then it may calm down? If not what would be the Cause/ Fix - in very laymans terms -im not a mechanic by any stretch.

2nd question - is there a way of supplying water to the engine without having to use the quick connection. eg can i put a hose into the water inlet from the back of the boat start the engine and then turn on the tap?

layman's terms

1. Carbs. You need to, re-seat them. Your pulling air from somewhere, if not there.

2. Use the transom water/outlet fittings, but dont use SO MUCH water/pressure, since it'll be a "direct" flush.

Thanks for that Seadooya,

1.Should the carbs have a gasket at all between themselves and the manifold. if so is a gasket sealant okay to use.

2. which on the back of the transom is the inlet?

Over rev

Is there a possibility that the idle screw is set too high? Or maybe the throttle cable is not adjusted correctly or in a bind for some reason?

hi Denis, no that has all been checked, I do have a mechanic mate of mine looking at it wednesday night but hoping that it is cause it is so new and as it is sitting on the trailer.

Cheers

Hi Everyone - Little more information. Port engine ( new) revs to 3500 and sounds consistent and strong when on the water tap and trailer - Starboard engine revs at about 1500 on the trailer and water tap. to me its a fair bit of difference. should a new engine run that high? on the trailer? will it drop back on the water? or should it be tuned down a little?

when you say revs you mean idle speed right?
engine idle speed out of water should be 3000 rpm
this is what jet skis are set at , i assume boat is the same
when boat in water this will drop to 1500 rpm
make sure all carb settings are proper
make sure all cables, throttle and oil pump are proper
good luck

Adjustment...

I hate the way the shop manual states to set them at 3000 rpm on the trailer.

If it's possible, leave your air box off (keep the flame arrestor on for manifold pressure), then take it and put the boat in the water. You don't have to take if off the trailer, just drop the back in into the water.

Now, start the motors. With the air boxes removed, you can get to your adjustment screws pretty easy and you can get to the idle screws. This is the perfect way to ensure you get 1500 on your idle and also, adjust your mixture screws is necessary.

Make sure you have the boat in forward while adjusting the mixture screws and adjust from idle, up into the midrange area. Do not adjust the LS screws with the engine running above the mid range transition........

from parts list it seems that spak plugs should be ngk br8-es and there should be a gasket 270000114 between carbs and manifold I would not use a formagasket on them. Do what the others have also sugested. Good luck Robin

hi guys thanks for all the advice. Little concerned that the plugs i have at the moment are a Autolite WC4092 and the NGK BR8 - ES are almost a full centermeter longer. will they hit the piston?

Looks like you may have the wrong sparkplug ngkbr8es crosses over to a autolite wc4063. Spinn engine over by hand if you are concerned that piston may hit spark plug. I would think that if your engine is stock you should be ok.

Thanks Robin, Both engines are stock no modifications or piston upgrades. Will try the NGK's as that is what the manual is also saying. Suprised it started on the WC4092 with that much gap

Hi everyone, have the right plugs in and both engines seem to be running much better but one is reving a little high and the other a little low. Whats the best way of getting them level in the revs - unfortunately i dont have the ability to drop the stern in the water so will need to do it with the hose .

A step by step would be great.
