My buddy just bought a 95 speedster and was happy about his purchase. after being out on the water for about 2 hours he began having problems with the passenger side engine. He came and picked me up so i could see what it was doing and this is what we found. At idle, both motors run fine. so we took it up a little at a time, and discovered the the passenger side motor dies between 3500 and 4000 rpms. It doesnt sputter, or run rought, it just flat out dies like you hit the kill switch. I told him to take it in and have his carbs gone through really well, but i also told him i'm not a seadoo mechanic. He took it to one shop that said it's a piston getting stuck ( seemed pretty odd to me) and took it to another which said it was his stator(s). Anyone on the board have any ideas?

do compression test, if good, go thru carbs, go thru both sets of carbs. Fire bad motor up, and hold rpms as high you can, but not pass 5500, and volt test battery at same time, should be between 13's-14.5v.

a piston woldn't stick, uless it was over heating. If it was from lack of oil... it wouldn't restart.

Did you check to see if there was water comming out the pee hole?

I'm going to just point my finger at the carbs. It seems like when the high fuel system plugs up... the engine will just shut off once you get to the right RPM's.

no i did not, i'm not familiar with the boat or the workings of it so i didnt even think to look for it. the sticking piston just didnt sit right with me due to the fact that it will start right up after it dies and idle fine. I told him to have all 4 carbs gone through especially since it wasn't used last year and he is the new owner. at the very least, it could prevent a problem down the road even if it doesnt fix this (although i also think it's a carb problem)

ill see if we can do that. compression test was 150. that was the first thing i did. i'll have to pick up a voltmeter, just one of those things i haven't needed just yet
