I just started my wave-runner for the first time this year and when it started there was a burning smell of plastic or rubber. I believe it to be the drive system protection hose, the clamp was loose towards the rear of the unit and seems that whatever is under that hose the clamp will not grab onto when tightening. the hose is about 3 inches long with 2 hose clamps. I did see black plastic shredding in the hull. I did not put the unit into the water so it is still dry. Can someone tell me the problem and the solution along with if possible a remedy in repairing the problem. I hope there is a quick fix that someone has come across.

With a 95, you have a regular bearing and seal pack. It was probably partly seized, and it twisted the hull insert.

Take it all apart, and check it out. (Remove th pump, and driveshaft)

If it's loose, take it out, clean everything, and buy a replacement insert, and epoxy it into your hull.

Thank you for your reply. I did download the repair manual. Before I try this I have never had to work on my ski before, is this something that I need special tools to remove and once I remove it will it just slide out. I am a little nervous doing something I have never done before. Could you be more specific as to what I am going to come across since you sound like you have done this many times in the past. Thank you in advance.

Nope... it's easy, and you dont' need special tools.

To remove the pump you take off the control cables, remove the cooling and bailing lines from inside the transom (hoses). Then remove the nozzle (4 bolts) and finally remove the 4 nuts holding the pump to the hull.

At that point... the pump will slide out. (with the drive shaft) Oh... if you find shims under the pump studs... mark them, and put them back int the proper location. Those shims are what aligns the pump to the engine. (Very important)

Now... from the inside... you can take off the driveshaft seal, and the boot. The hull insert is what the boot is clamped to. If it's loose, or broken... pull it out, and replace it. If it's OK... then just clean, and reassemble.

NOW... I will say this. Chances are, the seal is going to be bad. The bearing inside of it is going to be rusted up, and the actual rubber seals will be bad. (that's why it spun in the first place) Either buy a complete replacement, or but the parts to rebuild yours. (you can find complete replacements for $40 on eBay) Buying the factory parts is only slightly cheaper... and you have to spend your time rebuilding it.

If you run into any issues... just make a post, and someone here will help.
